Thanksgiving is over and it is time to get ready for Christmas! We are trying to plan ahead. That means getting the kid’s stocking stuffers early, rather than leaving them to the very last minute. Let us help you get ahead too. We’ve compiled a list of fun ideas for kids stocking stuffers. We’ve split them up in boy and girl categories, but the great thing is that many of these ideas overlap and can work for either gender.

Gingerbread House Recipe

When you’re building a gingerbread house from scratch, the gingerbread recipe you use makes a big difference.

Be sure to read all our pro tips for amazing gingerbread houses!

This never-fail recipe is remarkable stuff.

It works in humid climates or dry ones.

If dried out properly after baking, it can withstand a significant amount of weight in icing and candy.

It rolls out smoothly and bakes evenly.

It smells heavenly.

It’s heavy-duty and sturdy.

It can be used for 2- and 3-story houses.

My family and I have collectively made what may amount to hundreds of batches of the stuff over the years and it’s never failed us. Not once.

Oh, and the spices make it smell incredible!

Reuse old calendars as you put up the new with these amazing craft ideas! Recycel and reuse those pretty pictures to make something new.

If you are in the crafty mood after you reuse your calendars, try a 4×4 craft, indoor winter crafts for kids, or canvas art projects.

The year may be over, but that doesn’t mean you have to throw out your calendar. If you love last year’s colors and images, consider some new uses for the pages! Reuse old calendars and calendar images by making them into some useful and decorative new things. Fixing Uneven Stair Steps by Raising Stair Treads

As I mentioned in the basement remodel update, our basement stairs were uneven after we added new flooring in the upstairs. The bottom stair was also shorter than the others to begin with.

This might be an old-house remodel quirk that some people would just choose to shrug and live with, but I wanted to fix it! #youmightberemodelaholic 😉

Here’s what the stairs looked like in the last video update:

Our top stair was about 2 inches taller, and the bottom stair was about 2 inches shorter, so we needed to update the rise of the stairs to make nice even steps.

Gingerbread House Ideas and Tips

For nearly thirty years, I’ve been making gingerbread houses at Christmas time. Small ones. Big ones. Red and green ones. Pink and blue ones. Ones covered only in frosting and ones dripping in candy canes and gum drops. Yours doesn’t have to be fancy, simply create based on your creativity and mood. You really can’t go wrong!

Keep in mind that gingerbread houses take time! If you’re using our gingerbread house recipe, you want to give it anywhere from a full day to even 2 weeks to dry out completely before you start building with it.

Once construction is under way, the icing takes several hours to dry, so it’s best to work in steps over a number of days. And if you’re
