Stylish Kitchen Layout Centered Around A Mirrored Island

Designer Charlotte Raynaud and Menuiserie Hegenbart recently completed a very stylish kitchen for a home situated in Aix-en-Provence, France. The design follows the trend of spacious, open-plain kitchens typical for most modern and contemporary homes these days. It makes use of a special material called HI-MACS® which can be molded into any shape, thus making it possible to create these smooth soft lines and delicate curves that work really well with this kitchen.

The focal point here is the island which serves as a connector between the kitchen and the rest of the floor plan containing the dining room and living area. It has a unique design with a solid white top that continues all the way down to the floor on one side, like a waterfall. It wraps around the base which is mirrored and reflects the flooring and everything else around it. It’s this contrasting combination of surfaces and finishes that makes the island stand out. The rest of the kitchen is furnished with a full-height unit and a set of cupboards with bleached natural oak fronts. There are no upper wall cabinets which allows the kitchen to look and feel very open, spacious and inviting.
