Abu Dhabi has launched a 13-kilometer road upgrade in Mussafah, aiming to ease traffic and cut travel times. The project includes a new expressway, two bridges connecting Mussafah to Mohammed bin Zayed City, and junction improvements. These changes reflect the city’s focus on expanding its transport network to support economic growth and urban development.

The centerpiece is a new expressway along Street 8, designed to handle 4,000 vehicles per hour. This route will separate through-traffic from local traffic, benefiting both commuters and businesses. The plan also upgrades four junctions on the E30, enhances connections with Street 8 and the E20, and modifies nine major intersections to improve traffic flow.

Two new bridges will link Mussafah and Mohammed bin Zayed City, while a pedestrian bridge will improve safety and accessibility for residents and workers. These additions aim to reduce congestion and enhance connectivity in the region.

Mussafah, a key industrial and commercial area in Abu Dhabi, relies on its road network for daily commuters and businesses transporting goods. Engineer Eisa Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Director-General of Infrastructure Development at the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), noted the project’s strategic design.

Al Mazrouei stated, “Mussafah’s road network serves a wide range of users, from residents commuting to work and businesses transporting goods to people who rely on local journeys throughout the day.” He emphasized that planning for these diverse needs is essential for the area’s growth. By separating through-traffic from local routes and improving connections with nearby communities, the project aims to boost economic activity and make daily commutes safer and more efficient.

The initiative also ensures the upgraded network can accommodate future connections and development. This proactive planning aligns with Abu Dhabi‘s long-term growth strategy, securing lasting benefits for its transport system.

Al Mazrouei highlighted the project’s role in aligning current infrastructure decisions with Abu Dhabi’s development goals. This approach provides long-term advantages for the emirate’s transport system, addressing present challenges and future demands.
